National Safety Standards

Teachers delivering courses to classes in Design and Technology are expected to meet certain National Standards for Technical competence in the use of machinery and equipment in workshops and classrooms. This is spelled out in British Standard BS 4163:2014 which is the "bench-mark" for all safety issues in school DT/Engineering practical work.

The Teacher Development Agency and the Design and Technology Association have worked together to produce Core Standard Qualifications for Primary and Secondary Teachers and 11 Specialist Secondary extension levels. There is a clear expectation that DT and Engineering teachers shall hold current qualifications in the Core area and any Specialisms which they use in the classroom/workshop. These qualifications last FIVE years and then need refreshing.

I offer DATA accredited training in most of the Secondary areas see the page headed "Training".
